Minister, preacher, teacher and writer, with a particular concern for people on the margins, creation care and the meeting place between theology and everyday life.
My Journey
I grew up in Kenya, where I was educated through to A level, before travelling to India to study Economics and Public Administration at Punjab University. After university, I returned to Kenya and worked with the Kenyan Government and with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
I migrated to the United Kingdom in the 1990s and worked in several different sectors before responding to a call to ordained ministry. I trained for ministry at Westminster College, Cambridge, and was ordained in 2012 to serve in the Bolton Trinity Pastorate. In 2016, I was called to the Church of Christ the Cornerstone in Milton Keynes, where I continue to serve.
Faith and Calling
At the heart of my life and ministry is a commitment to Jesus Christ. Most importantly, I love the Lord Jesus Christ. He is my personal Saviour, whose love and grace have reconciled me to God. My ministry, preaching and writing flow from that conviction.
My life has also been shaped by a desire to stand alongside those who find themselves on the margins of society. I am especially interested in the ways theology speaks to, and interfaces with, the experiences of marginalised communities and the Global Majority — a world in which I myself have one foot.
Creation, Climate and Justice
More recently, I have become increasingly concerned with our care of the planet in the face of global climate change and the existential threat humanity faces as a consequence of excessive and unsustainable living. I believe Christian theology has something urgent to say about creation, stewardship, justice and our responsibility to generations yet to come.
For me, care for creation cannot be separated from care for people. Environmental degradation falls disproportionately upon those who are already poor or vulnerable. Creation care is therefore not simply an environmental concern; it is also a matter of justice, discipleship and love of neighbour.
Family and Life Beyond the Pulpit
I am married to Christine Mucheru. We have two adult children and a grandchild. Away from formal ministry, I am a keen gardener, I enjoy walking with Christine, and I am an enthusiastic amateur golfer.
