A Prayer for Healing, Hope and God’s Nearness

Gracious and compassionate God, draw near to all who suffer through illness, especially those who are weary, afraid, and close to losing hope. Meet each one at their deepest point of need, in hospitals, nursing and care homes, in their own homes, and wherever pain is borne silently and alone. Lay upon them the healing hands of your Holy Spirit. Bring relief from pain, courage for each new day, peace to troubled minds, and the assurance that they are neither forgotten nor forsaken. Strengthen families, carers, doctors, nurses, and all who offer comfort and care.

We remember especially those in poorer parts of the world who suffer beyond the reach of doctors, hospitals, and essential medicines. Where human help is scarce, let your presence be especially near. Stir the hearts of nations and communities to share resources justly, so that no life is neglected because of poverty or place. Lord, when healing seems distant, sustain hope; when words fail, hear the silent cry; and when strength is gone, carry your children in your everlasting arms. Touch them with your mercy, surround them with your love, and grant healing of body, mind, or spirit according to their need and your gracious will. Through Jesus Christ, our healer and our hope.
